The âUrban Hedgehogâ Project has received an overwhelming response in residents from across the borough wishing to apply for a hedgehog pack and help the hedgehog populations within °Ĵ²ĉAĈĴ. As a result, the 60 packs that were on offer have been allocated which will help to deliver positive actions for hedgehogs.
The Coordinator of the Local Nature Partnership for °Ĵ²ĉAĈĴ and Torfaen said, âIâm so glad that this project has been so popular and look forward to hearing about how these packages have helped hedgehogs in the area. Itâs so important for our wellbeing to care for and experience nature on our doorstep.â
The Chair of Hedgehog Helpline said, âWe totally support this initiative from °Ĵ²ĉAĈĴ council and all those doing what they can to help the survival of these much loved and important animals are to be commended. The environment is not only for us to enjoy now but for generations to come. We have the opportunity to make a difference, lets do it! Thank you all for what you are doing.

Due to the level of interest for people of °Ĵ²ĉAĈĴ to help local hedgehog, we are planning on offering more packages in early Spring 2021 and will be linking with Hedgehog Awareness Week in May. So if you missed out on the first giveaway you can re-apply where there may be another opportunity for you to be involved. The packs will be allocated on a first come first serve basis and will also be dependent upon being assessed and meeting the requirements by submitting an application. Further details on reapplications will be issued in Spring 2021.
Donât forget you can still help hedgehogs in your local area by recording any sightings you have to either SEWBREC http://www.sewbrec.org.uk/information-about-biological-recording/biological-recording.page or to Hedgehog Street https://www.hedgehogstreet.org/.
The more recording/sightings that these organisations receive will build up a better picture and understanding of hedgehog populations and what we can do to help.
