This protected outdoor area ensures children are able to learn through playing outside, whatever the weather. It was funded by the Welsh Government's Pupil Development Grant. These grants provide financial support to help tackle the effects of poverty on attainment.
Nick Smith, MP was able to cut the ribbon to officially open the canopy. He said:
"Deighton Primary has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years and the school leadership has received numerous accolades. It's great to see an improvement in the fabric of the building that will support learning in a great little school."
Headteacher Mike Gough added, "It was great to welcome Nick Smith MP to Deighton and for the children to help him open this new facility. They will benefit immensely from it and Welsh Government's commitment to equity in the form of grants to schools needs to be applauded. Mrs Wangiel and the staff have also worked very hard to develop this space into an attractive, child-friendly learning area."
