A few schools have vacancies that need to be filled as soon as possible, but the Education department also wants to develop a database of people suitable for the role of a governor should more vacancies become available.
No previous education knowledge is required, what is important is a passion for helping children and young people to get the most from their education and achieve their goals. Skills and experience from a range of fields such as business, HR, finance and data analysis are desirable and would be particularly welcomed.
School governors are an important part of the work to raise education standards. They work closely with both the schools and the Council to monitor performance and set targets. You don’t have to have a child at the school to become a governor there.
There are immediate vacancies for governors at the following schools:
- Sofrydd Primary School
- Beaufort Hill Primary School, Ebbw Vale
- Pen-y-Cwm Special School, Ebbw Vale
- Willowtown Primary, Ebbw Vale
- Glanhowy Primary School, Tredegar
- Coed-y-Garn Primary School, Nantyglo
- Ystruth Primary School, Blaina
- Georgetown Primary School, Tredegar
- Brynmawr Foundation School
- Abertillery Learning Community
All new governors will receive access to appropriate training and support to help them fulfil their role.
