Introduction to Universal Credit

The introduction of Universal Credit (UC) represents a fundamental change to the system of “legacy benefits” and tax credits that it is replacing.

Universal Credit Full Service is currently being rolled out throughout the United Kingdom with °¬˛ćAƬ due to go live in April 2018.

You will be affected from the above date if you rent from a Private / Social Landlord and are required to make a new claim for any of the 6 benefits Universal Credit is replacing, Job Seekers Allowance (Income Based), Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credits, Chid Tax Credits, Employment Support Allowance (Income related) and Income Support.

°¬˛ćAƬ Housing and Housing Benefit Sections are hosting a Universal Credit awareness event aimed at the private rented sector on Wednesday 27th September 2017 in the Metropole Theatre, Abertillery. Coffee and registration is from 9.30am.

In attendance will be representatives from the Local Authority, Department for Works and Pension and third sector organisations to help you understand the changes.

Format of the day is as follows:

·         Morning session - Information and speakers from Housing Benefit, Department for Works and Pension, Rent Smart Wales, Private Rented Sector Officers.  

·         Afternoon  session - “Drop in” -  With information and advice from services across °¬˛ćAƬ including advice on debt, digital support, personal budgeting support, bond boards etc. The session will be tailored to those individuals with a property or those who reside within °¬˛ćAƬ who will be affected by Universal Credit. Information Stands will be offered on local services within the area detailing how they can support you.
